He's ba-aack and he's tapping out

Osama bin Laden has released a new tape. No word on when it was recorded. From breitbart.com:

Bin Laden Warns of Attacks, Offers Truce

CAIRO, Egypt

Al-Jazeera aired an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden on Thursday, saying al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a truce to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan.

The voice on the tape said heightened security measures in the United States are not the reason there have been no attacks there since the Sept. 11, 2001, suicide hijackings.

Instead, the reason is "because there are operations that need preparations, and you will see them," he said.

"Based on what I have said, it is better not to fight the Muslims on their land," he said. "We do not mind offering you a truce that is fair and long-term. ... So we can build Iraq and Afghanistan ... there is no shame in this solution because it prevents wasting of billions of dollars ... to merchants of war."

The speaker did not give conditions for a truce in the excerpts aired by the Arab broadcaster.

I interpret this as follows: "We're losing in Iraq and Afghanistan, and we want you to stop. And you should, because if you don't, we're going to keep thinking about how to attack you again".

Pfffft.

ADDENDUM: Great post here on the left's reaction to last week's bombing in Pakistan, which nailed al-Qaeda's chief WMD guy (no, not Saddam, sorry) and two other high-ranking officials. Money quote: "The uncompromising left really should do a better job of concealing its quite obvious hope that Bush fails in every aspect of the prosecution of this war. It almost makes it hard for us to believe that they support the troops, fer Chrissakes."

Perhaps it's just a coincidence that less than one week after this attack, bin Laden is suggesting a "truce" in Iraq and Pakistan, but is still trying to save face with militants by suggesting that they're still studying ways to attack the infidels?
