C.D. Howe Institute says proposals come up short

The no-nonsense C.D. Howe Institute suggests that both the Liberal and Tory plans come up short of what's needed to rein in what they call "out of control" federal spending and make Canada's tax system as "fair and efficient as possible". In fact, they say that the tax cut proposals by both parties won't do a thing to improve Canada's competitiveness or boost investment.

See here.

In fact, in a report on program spending that you can find linked above, the author says that we are on our way to a repeat of the 1970s, which was the most disastrous decade for public policy since the Great Depression.

I am absolutely and completely disappointed in Harper. What he should have proposed was this: "It is customary of new governments to undertake what is commonly referred to as program review upon swearing-in. I plege to consult with Parliament and Canadians on any savings or effeciencies, or conversely, any increases in spending that we feel could and should be achieved".
