Tragedy
Yesterday, 25-year old constable Valerie Gignac was shot dead north of Montreal after answering a routine call.
News reports say Gignac was a four-year veteran of the force.
My question is this: Just what the hell are the police doing hiring 21-year olds???

Call me a cynic, but I think that in the rush towards "diversity" police forces may be hiring people who are less than 100% properly trained.
I'm not talking gender, I'm talking age. A lot of "diversity" initiatives are targeted at youth ... the "we need to be reflective of the people we serve" type of stuff. In my view, a 21-year old cannot possibly be fully trained to properly participate in urban law enforcement.
I also highly doubt a "total ban on handguns" would have saved her life.
How would a ban keep guns of any kind out of criminals' hands?

We would have to close the border, first of all.
Registered guns are not being used to commit crimes. Saturday night specials and other weaponry that are being smuggled from the US are the problem.
The Liberals recently proposed a plan to double sentences for illegal firearm posessions from one year to two years.
Your idea is the same as the Liberal one but it would make criminals out of outdoorsmen.

I'm sure if you knew some, you'd see that they are harmless.
In any case, I don't think that these are the types of folks who are going to listen to a ban on guns.
No shit. Why the hell are the two major parties bending over ass backwards to promise babysitting programs to the voting public when we can't even secure the f'ng border?
