Book Review: "The Rantings of a Single Male: Losing Patience with Feminism, Political Correctness ... and Basically Everything" by Thomas Ellis
This book, written by a 40-something veteran of the dating scene, is a look into the current state of gender relations in the year 2005. Organized into chapters that are called "rants", Ellis takes on everything from cultural differences between American women and others around the world to the obsession of some women with New Age spirituality to pornography to the fascination of some women with gay men.
This is by no means a scholarly work. It's simply a boys' night out for the lovelorn put to paper. Although Ellis is quite bitter, his recollection of past relationships and dates are laugh-out-loud funny. His bottom line is that (radical) feminism has turned relationships upside down to the detriment of both genders, and he offers more than a few witty and wry real-life observations to prove his point.
This book has to be taken for what it is - one man's experience - but there are certainly more than a few kernels of truth to be found. Fellas, this is like Maxim magazine but with more intellect and sarcasm. Ladies, if you are ever wondering how to get into a man's head, forget about that "Men are from Mars" crap and just give this one a look. You'll learn more about guys with Ellis' book, laugh more often, and probably at yourself a few times, too.
