Wednesday digest

- A number of witty US troops stationed in Iraq pay tribute to the opening credits of the 1994 classic "Dumb and Dumber", pictured above.

(Hope I didn't botch that one.)

Apparently, what Kerry meant to say was this:

"I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

You'd think if one is so convinced that the opponent who defeated them is a total buffoon, they'd keep it to themselves, or at least demonstrate a little more humility.

- A huge thumbs down to the Canadian government today for coming down on the side of more punitive taxation. Like what Margaret Thatcher said about Progressive Conservative Brian Mulroney, this move is heavy on the former and light on the latter. At the end of the day, there's only one taxpayer, and the federal government's share of the economy is already large enough (not to mention the broken promise).

- More evidence here that adherents to the religion of peace need to reclaim it from those who pervert it.

- Philopophical question of the day: has globalization empowered the ham n' egger?

- Skeelo over at Pursuit of Leisure has opened up a real can of worms. No, he hasn't resurrected the abortion debate, euthanasia, or gay marriage. He hasn't even made the bold suggestion that Darcy Tucker is an elite power forward in the National Hockey League. What he has proposed is that Nickelback is the worst artist on the music charts today.

I strenuously disagree and offer Shakira as proof to the contrary.

I second the standing O.

It's not like Kerry can claim what he said was "taken out of context" or he meant to say something else. He just flat out fucked up.

Even as a Leaf fan I would never say Darcy Tucker is an elite winger. Idiot yes, elite no.
