Saturday digest
- A group of nine men have been arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act for allegedly planning an attack on unnamed Toronto landmarks.
How long until we hear one of the following:
a) accusations of anti-Muslim racism;
b) Canada should expect/deserve this kind of reaction from Muslims due to our involvement in Afghanistan; or
c) our PM is a Bush clone so this should come as no surprise.
- Apparently Republicans don't have a monopoly on interfering in the internal politics of other countries.
- Thomas Friedman continues to remind readers that a significant percentage of petrol profits eventually find their way into terrorist hands. It is vital that we get a grip on our addiction to oil.
- Here's an old-school rant on parenting, specifically, fatherhood. It's bang on.
- The US economy: reports of its' death have been greatly exaggerated.
- An interview with the son of the deposed Iranian shah. He says that sanctions are the way to pressure Iran, but given that major countries like US, the UK, Canada and Germany don't import Iranian oil, I think it would be a tough sell to get the Asian countries which are Iran-dependent on side.
- Why can't some people just accept the fact that they got beat?
