Film Review: "Walk the Line" (2005)

By now, everyone has heard about this movie, so no need to go into great detail about the plot. Essentially, it's the story of Johnny Cash and his career from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, and how he deals with the pressures of fame, which is to say, not very well. Only by the love of a woman (can you guess who?) is he able supsersede the trappings of the rock n' roll lifestyle and come out triumphant.

I really liked the live performance scenes, especially the ones with Reese Witherspoon. However, if you don't have an ear for country (and I'm talking a real ear, not just a poser ear, because let's face it, pretending you are down with Cash is considered cool these days), you may find it grating. Good acting as well (this is the pinnacle of each star's career, in my opinion) but could have been about 20 minutes shorter.

Overall rating: 7.5/10

It's a little known fact that Cash asked June to marry him after a show at the Icehouse in London.

Good point about everybody jumping on the Cash bandwagon. Everyone always says that they only like the "real" country performed by Johnny Cash. WTF do Merle Haggard, George Jones, and George Strait sing - rap?

I bet you all these new, so-called Cash fans' favourite band is one of either Green Day, Blink 182 or the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They all probably couldn't name five Cash tunes if they were asked, either.

I loved the scene with the Carter's chasing off Johnny's dealer. Classic. I love the South.
