Film Review: "Pride and Prejudice" (2005)

Never having read Jane Austen's novel about the hunt for a husband in Victorian-era England, I was rather unfamiliar with the characters going into this film. I wish I had at least read a summary because as a narrative, this movie doesn't work all that well. I had a hard time determining whether Donald Sutherland played the girls' dad or was perhaps just some guy from the village they lived in. I also couldn't figure out what the relationship was between the various suitors of the girls. Despite my confusion, there were some midly amusing moments in the dialogue. I also have to admit that I ended up falling asleep about two-thirds of the way through.
