Only themselves to blame

This is a fantastic article from former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan in today's WSJ. She says that congressional Republicans only have themselves to blame for the Abramoff bribery scandal because they forgot to stand for conservative principles.

What's the quote from PJ O'Rourke again? Oh, yes. Here it is:

"The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work and then they get elected and prove it."

No kidding.
