AIDS
Fred over at Gay and Right suggests that Harper could have made a policy statement today on the African AIDS epidemic on the occasion of World AIDS Day today. I agree. It would have been a good opportunity for him to demonstrate that he is ready to take on global issues as the leader of a G-8 country.
I didn't see Martin do much in commemoration today besides wear a ribbon, though. Even the NDP made no mention of World AIDS Day, which is surprising. (Or perhaps they did and the press just didn't cover it.)
I have to wonder, could it be that our willingness as Canadians to actually think seriously about Third World issues is expressed only when rock stars challenge us to do so?
For shame.
POSTSCRIPT: I stand corrected ... Martin addressed the issue in front of high school students today in Cornwall.
