Full retreat, baby, full surrender
Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi has endorsed a full and immediate withdrawal of US forces from Iraq. She also says that she believes that the majority of her caucus would agree with her.
John Kerry, for his part, responded to President Bush's well-reviewed speech from yesterday by saying that "no one has ever suggested or believes that we should run in the face of car bombers or assassins." I would say that it's clear that Kerry's own party is advocating that very policy, and as the editorialists at National Review suggest, "(t)he battlelines are being drawn with increasing clarity on Iraq. More and more Democrats will give up on their former posture of denouncing Bush's handling of the war without offering any real alternative of their own, and instead forthrightly enunciate their own favored policy: quitting."
In the Weekly Standard, Bill Kristol suggests that this may be the turning point in the battle for Congress next year, but more interestingly, he floats the idea of appointing Joe Lieberman as Secretary of Defense.
That is a tantalizing thought. Not only would it piss off the radical left, it would also REALLY piss off the terrorists. A Jewish Secretary of Defense? Take that, al-Qaeda.
1 Comments:
Joe Liebermand is to the Democrats as John McCain is to the Repubs.
