DVD Review: No Doubt - "Rock Steady Live" (2003)

Picked this one up for $3.99 at the GT Boutique just prior to Christmas. I'm a casual fan of No Doubt and will remain only that after viewing this show. The vocal overdubs are painfully obvious, and Gwen Stefani's excessive and juvenile profanity, while probably sounding pretty hard-core to the 13,000 pubescents in the audience, takes away from thoughtful tracks like "Simple Kind of Life" (but then what are we to expect from a woman who, much closer to 40 than 20, scored a hit two years ago with a song containing a chorus of "the shit is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s")? I like Gwen better when she lets her mature side out, which unfortunately, isn't often.

On the plus side, I have to hand it to them for keeping it together because their music, while not overly complex, isn't simplistic a la AC/DC, either. Full props to the guys in the band for keeping things from becoming a total train wreck.

Overall rating: 6.25/10
