Admit it

So the usual navel-gazing and excuse-making has begun.

Did the team have difficulty gelling and developing a sense of cohesion? Sure.

Did the coaching staff not do the best job they could have? Yes.

Should guys like Spezza, Staal and Kariya been named to the main roster? Perhaps.

Should guys like Boyle, Phaneuf, Crosby and maybe even others like Savard and Madden deserved some consideration? Could be.

Could they have used the leadership of an Yzerman or a Mario in the dressing room? Perhaps.

What impact did the injuries of Jovanovski and Neidermayer have? Probably a lot.

All of these things are valid points for discussion but the bottom line is this: The Canadian men's hockey team lost because they got outplayed, plain and simple. There is no reason this roster should have played as bad as they did. They didn't get the job done, and that's why they lost. There is no magic bullet. They just got beat. It's time to stop looking for some kind of elusive answer or eureka explanation.

Team Canada sucked.

Just admit it.

Bang on. They could have had Crosby, Staal, etc. on the team on still not won. The Russian team was younger, faster, more skilled, and yes had more heart. Ovechkin is the perfect example. This guy has a killer instinct Canada lacked.

Agreed... though I think the selection was a bit questionable. It reminded me of the '96 World Cup team, when Paul Coffey was on the team even though he was 50.

Typically, the usual Royal Commission has started about "what is wrong with Canadian hockey". Sometimes teams all-star teams play poorly. This was one of those times. It is nothing more.

This has to be a lesson that you don't only take players with experience who have been there before because Canada did that and they choked. Like in '02, you take the players who are hot and playing great at the time.

That being said, 18 months ago they won with that team.

No excuses. They got pumped.

Now I know what it's like to cheer for the Leafs.

I have an even greater respect for Doan.

I think canadians need to stop thinking that the gold medal is handed to the cdn team as they check into the olympic village and the subsequent loss of said medal is akin to being robbed at gunpoint.

There are 5 countries in the world who can ice a team that is as good or better than canada's in any given tournament (russia, sweden, czech republic, usa and finland)

Losing to one of those teams in a single elimination tournament is not that big of a deal.

we need to calm down.
