Wednesday digest

- Reason #47 why Canadian politics is a sideshow:

Tomorrow, Canada's parliamentarians will be seized with the testimony of Hockey Canada officials who have been summoned before the Official Languages Committee to explain why Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes was awarded the captaincy of Canada's world championship team this spring. Doan was alleged to have uttered an anti-Francophone slur against a French-Canadian referee during a game almost two years ago, but has denied it. The National Hockey League later conducted an investigation and cleared Doan, a squeaky-clean guy by all accounts, but the referee who was supposedly targeted still insists that Doan made the remark.

This is embarassing.

What do you think other countries think when they look at what sometimes passes for debate and discussion concerning issues facing the Canadian people in our House of Commons and Senate?

It's no wonder that public esteem for politicians continues to dip to an all-time low year after year after year.

- Unfortunately for al-Qaeda, far-left Democrats and those who can't grasp the fact that under the Constitution, the President is the Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces, George W. Bush has exercised his prerogative, thwarting Harry Reid's plan to leave Iraq with America's tail between its legs and give a going-away present to Osama Bin Laden - the city of Baghdad.

How about a little bit of responsible opposition for a change?

- The acting Speaker of the Palestinian Parliament, a member of Hamas, recently prayed to Allah in a public sermon and asked that all Jews and Americans be killed, but judging from this, I don't expect his pals in the Canadian "peace" movement to even bat an eyelash.

He's the decider.
