Preliminary Thoughts

It looks like the Conservatives will get away with seats numbering in the low 120s and the Liberals in the low 100s. Not a healthy gap for Harper.

Federalists everywhere can take heart that the Bloc lost seats, and it's clear that with 10 seats, the Conservative party is a player in Quebec once again, led by the Pontiac's Lawrence Cannon and the lovely Josée Verner.

In Ontario, Toronto stayed solidly red while "star" candidate Allan Cutler and the woman running against Belinda Stronach, Lois Brown, pretty much shit the bed. Will Jim Flaherty be the political minister for the GTA?

As for the Maritimes, as Ira Hayes pointed out to me, the Tories moderated their platform, leaving in things like regional development and not speaking out against the highway robbery that was the whole Atlantic Accord mess, and still Peter Mackay couldn't deliver the goods. Then again, it's Maritime politics, so who really cares?

As for the Prairies, results are coming in now. No surprises. BC looks like it's split between the Tories and the NDP with more gains for the Party of F. Great, more people in Parliament who look like they smell like piss.

More tomorrow morning after the dust settles.

My name wasn't on any ballot in this election, I had no sign on my lawn, I didn't knock on a single door, nor did I donate a single dollar to any candidate. Ergo, I had no opponent.

Have you seen some of the hairy armpits that ran for the NDP in BC? You know, the party that basically said women would have to stock up on coathangers and minorities would be turned back at the border should Harper win?

Somebody's skin is a little thin today, no?

What part of less than one in five voters and less than 10% of the seats in the House equates to victory? It's reminiscent of the Leafs ... every time they win a first round playoff series, their fans act as though they've won the Cup.

Seriously, you cannot pretend for one second that the Left has not dished out the personal insults for years and years and years to anyone who is right of Pierre Trudeau. Recent case in point: Halifax radio host Andrew Krystal's remarks yesterday about how Canadians who support Harper would vote for Hitler if he was running. A little ball busting about the hygiene of your average BC tree hugging Dipper is fair game after all the abuse that Dipper clientele hands out (neo-fascists, misogynists, and Jesus freaks are three that come to mind).

And I'm not even a card carrying Tory, nor have I been a member of any party since well before the 2000 election.

Have you seen the BC Dipper caucus? A dose of the hard left's own insulting and petty medicine once every couple of years is fair game if you ask me. I would also say that you are much more Dipper than I am Tory, for reasons that shouldn't be discussed here, but more importantly, this - in the immortal words of Eddie Murphy's Uncle Gus - "It's my house. You don't like it? You get the F out", baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
